Lucy at the Wheel… making an apple baker

Its apple picking season here in Western Massachusetts, so to celebrate the season I am making apple bakers. If you have never had a baked Cortland, or Mutsu apple with some maple syrup, cinnamon, raisins and pecans you are missing out on quite a treat.

We shot a little 3 minute video with me at the potter’s wheel making an apple baker the other day.  Just me, the wheel, quiet, no instruction.  It’s a bit different from my videos made in 2008 by expertvillage with the two-minute instructional clips.

The Apple Baker

 I just started making apple bakers recently for an event we have here in Western Massachusetts called Cider Days.  I’ve been having some fun with them, and this is what I came up with for my finished product. 

But my question is this, do you think they can serve more than one purpose?  I think you could roast garlic in it.  My friend Mary thinks you can bake a pear in it.  So I gave her one of my seconds today to do a little research and developement with it.  We like to call it R&D.  Friends like R&D!
