Berry Baskets and Berry Bowls

The Asparagus Valley Pottery Trail is two weeks away!  One of the items (a customer favorite) that I have been making are berry bowls and baskets.  Here are some drying on my work table, and a couple of finished ones.

Berry Season is almost upon us!

  1. You are still working hard I see, they look great.
I just got my first pottery wheel last week. Will start lessons May 2nd : ) And a kiln is on it’s way : )

  2. Your berry bowls are so gorgeous and so inspiring to potter-wanna-be’s like myself! I am learning how to make my own colanders and wondered if there are special tricks to creating clean holes. Mine always seem to have a rough look around them. I have used clay with grog and without, but seem to have the same problem. Thanks for your help!

  3. Thank you!
So the holes can be a problem. I make sure the clay is leather hard, and use a hole making tool. When it is bone dry I scrape off any rough areas, then give the holes a light sponging. Good Luck!

  4. Thank you for the tips! Didn’t think to sponge the holes when they are bone dry. Have been using a green scrubbie. Cannot wait to try your technique on my next colander. Thank you so much for your help and for all your blog updates. Very inspiring!
